Since the 2008 credit-crunch, money seems to have become even more of an all-absorbing component of our daily lives. This T-Shirt looks at the entire philosophy of money and ‘worthless promissory notes’, via the medium of popular quotations and musings...

Printed on ultra-soft Sunrise Yellow, all quotes stem from the central theme – or trunk – that ‘Money Does Not Grow On Trees’ (or in this case, T’s... no? Please yourself). The more observant amongst you, will recognise that the ‘NOT’ in the phrase, has been placed in the centre of the trunk, to emphasise a ‘knot’ in the wood. Geddit? Still no?

The underground roots of the tree, show all the negative aspects of money:

Love of money is the root of all evil. ~ The often misquoted Apostle Paul's First Epistle to Timothy, from the New Testament

Money does not buy happiness. ~ Anon/Generic

Money is the worst currency that ever grew among mankind. ~ Sophocles

Money often costs too much. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Money corrupts and secret money corrupts absolutely. ~ Lord Acton

If money be not thy servant, it will be thy master. ~ Benjamin Franklin

The grass, drawing a line through the trunk offers the thought-provoking philosophy: Money will buy you a fine dog, but only love can make its tail wag ~ Richard Friedman

Branching out from the trunk, are the more positive and lighthearted aspects of money:

There are no pockets in a shroud. ~ Author unknown

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits, with my net income. ~ Errol Flynn

Money never starts an idea. It is always the idea that starts the money. ~ Owen Laughlin

The art is not in making money, but keeping it. ~ Proverb

While money can’t buy happiness, it certainly lets you choose your own form of misery. ~ Attrubuted to both Groucho Marx and Clare Booth Luce

A penny saved is a penny earned. ~ Proverb

The glow of one warm thought, is to me, worth more than money. ~ Thomas Jefferson

If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can’t buy ~ Anon/Generic
